Inland Waterways Small Passenger Boat Code – compliance check and simple heel test

A lovely afternoon at Ballyronan Marina on Lough Neagh today to take freeboard measurements and conduct a simple heel test on ‘The Goddess’, the vessel that River Bann Tours will soon be operating. The operator has gone a step beyond others by ensuring the vessel complies with the Inland Waterways Small Passenger Boat Code, a voluntary code created by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency along with some inland waterways authorities. The vessel had to meet requirements of maximum heel angle with all passengers on one side while maintaining freeboard to deck and freeboard to downflooding distance with 2 crew and 12 passengers.
